Halloween 2009

What a fun time we had this year! Leslie decided to be a mad scientist. We decided to just go crazy and had such a fun time with it. And yes, that is her own hair. Mice and all. Believe me, she got a LOT of comments. And yes, it also took a while to comb out and clean up.Laura decided that she wanted to be Pippi Longstocking. This was super fun to put together also. And she was truly the perfect Pippi. Seth. Well, I am learning that Halloween is truly easier when it comes to boys. At least this one. I tossed around plenty of fun, creative ideas. But, when it came down to it, he REALLY, REALLY just wanted to be a transformer. Right along with 6 of the 7 other boys that dressed up in his preschool class ;) Kirsti. I almost forgot to mention Kirsti. It really is a long story. She asked not to be photographed. Kirsti had this idea to be a tube of lipstick for Halloween. I, however, just did not have any amazing ideas on how to make this happen. I know, bad Mom. Kirsti was very happy to find some little bunny ears and tail that she could wear to have a little costume, as she is not entirely sure it is really cool to dress up still. Well....Todd did not think that the bunny costume was such a good idea. Said that the boys her age would have other ideas. So...Kirsti went as a witch. If she still wants to dress up next year, we'll most certainly have to do better. At least I have a year to come up with a way to craft her into a tube of lipstick ;)

Pumpkins. They were a bit more of an adventure than normal. We were SO excited to harvest 5 pumpkins from our garden. I only bought two pumpkins at the store. (One was an extra, just in case.) Well, I learned that doesn't work here. It has been too cold to garden for quite a while now. And did you know that pumpkins don't last a super long time once they are out of the garden? I didn't. When we went to carve them, all the garden pumpkins were soft. The last minute run to the store gave us two, not pretty pumpkins. We happily carved them, and decided we had no choice but to make do with four pumpkins this year. NEXT MISTAKE, I didn't take a picture immediately. Here is what Kirsti's pumpkin looked like after spending the night on the porch. I assure you it was a well-carved super cool pumpkin. We had the pleasure of chasing off a couple big bucks who loved eating it for lunch. And...if you notice in our pumpkin picture, we caught them just as they were starting on Laura's. Notice the square nose on her pumpkin is not so square anymore! At least it was an adventure!
Now, to all that candy....

Kirsti's Request

I found this note on our table yesterday afternoon. At least she is learning how to write a persuasive paper ;)
Just in case you can't make out the text of her letter, I will copy it below. Humm, do I really want a drum set in the house???

Dear Mom and Dad,

As you know, I have wanted a drum set for quite a while. Finally I have found the right set. I’ve chosen this one for its style and price.
The style I have chosen is a Pro 5-piece shell pack out of the Musician’s friend sales catalog. This is because it is the style that I have learned on in band this year, and I think I will progress faster on it.
By now you probably think I have chosen a $1,000 drum set, but I have not. This set is only 249.99 cents, or 250 dollars. Also, I will pay for one third of the price, or $84. This magazine has free shipping for most items over $99. This set cost as much as a snare drum, also on sale in the same catalog.
If we decide to take this opportunity, I will agree to some responsibilities. I promise to practice 5 minutes everyday unless you have a headache or we are out of town. If[for some crazy reason] you ask me to stop, I promise to comply.
This is all up for negotiating. I will be pretty flexible. I won’t be offended if it’s a no-go. Thank you for taking time to read this and I hope you will take this into consideration.

Thank You!!
Love,
Kirsti

Memory Lane...

I have been working on and off for quite a while on a huge undertaking: scanning all of my parents' old photos. It is tedious, but can be interesting at times. I thought I would share one of my favorites. DAD--I LOVE THIS PHOTO!!! I always seem to come back to this one. I am not sure why, but for some reason, I just love it!

Quote of the Day

We were walking home from the bus stop after school today amidst a nice, heavy snowstorm. (May I emphasize that today is April 1st.)

Leslie (in a serious voice) asked, "Mom, does this count as an April shower?"

Gotta love that girl.

Mindless doodling

So, what exactly is a mother to think when she runs across this family picture in a certain child's desk? Is it innocent doodling or does said child have some underlying issues? I found it quite humorous and I am sorely tempted to divulge the name of said child. Only she would be quite upset at her lack of anonymity. I really do love it. As long as it doesn't progress to the pictures on the wall or in the books, I will enjoy the good laugh. And besides, Todd's got hair again ;)

What I found....

while cleaning our basement.
Does this make your skin crawl as much as it does mine???

You know you are a redneck...

when you find this in the ads for your local grocery store. Really. I had to do a double take. I thought that most everyone just shoots their own around here. I guess I am not officially a redneck as I have no idea what I would do with it. Nor would I want to.
